In November 2000, one of the leading schools in the U.K., Rugby School, started a trial of Linkword Level 1 French on a class of 13 yr olds. The class selected for the trial was the weakest in the school for that particular year in French. There were concerns about both motivation and performance for this class. Seven months later, the head of Modern Languages, Dr. Steffen Sommer wrote;
"The success rate was conspicuous. The pupils developed a very high level of motivation for language learning as they could see very rapid progress and they remembered rather difficult vocabulary for a long period of time using the imagery. This culminated in what I classify as a very good performance for this set in the end of term examination, leading to a promotion of a quarter of the set. I also learned that the approach is not only unconventional, but also fun, particularly for learners with difficulties in approaching foreign languages."
Since this trial, Linkword courses have been introduced into a further six leading U.K. schools. In every case, the great majority of children reported considerably increased enjoyment of language learning. Again, the same heightened motivation was found in two studies of state schools in non-affluent areas of the country.
"What do we recommend for [language course] starters? We have a very confident answer to the question. We recommend Linkword. The courses are highly appreciated by the learners --quite simply, it gives results. We call results an ability to read, speak, and understand the language in simple terms after 15 - 20 hours."
